Two Ups at Kalgoorlie
Gouache Pastel 40 x 65 cm
Not far out of the City of Kalgoorlie many people weekly find there way out to this old tin open shed. Particularly over the cities Kalgoorlie Cup race round. Two Ups is an illegal gambling practice that spans back over one hundred years. the local police usually turn a blind eye to it, but often call out to surprise the occupants who scatter in all direction as the sirens and lights approach. Two Australian pennies are placed on a flat piece of wood and flipped up, landing with two heads, two tails or one of each, that’s the gamble. The deputy Premier of WA purchased this at my art opening in 1988.
