Pastel 510 x 390 cm

One of my first friends in Golden Bay was Grant Knowles of Tribull Drums. He was very supportive of my art from the time of my first Golden Bay exhibition. That year, 2003, Grant taught me the basic rhythms for playing a tribal drum. Soon afterwards I purchased one he made from golden Totara and have been beating away ever since.

As well as bathing the musician in vibrations of Light, Grant’s drums also emit Light when engaged in ensemble music making. This drawing contains several spiritual overtones.

This pastel portrait is the beginning of my musical series. Many of my subjects will come from two bands Lethea and I play in, one of which includes Grant — a seven member improvisational ensemble called Synchronicity.
