Pastel 46 x 66 cm
After two years of growing various irises in our three tiered rockery in the front of our home, this year I gathered a great mixture of all the irises and arranged them in a vase to feed us beauty inside the home as well as out in the garden.
This painting demonstrates the importance of careful composition, guiding the viewer’s eye. The entry to the painting, in this case, leads up from the stems, takes the viewer to the focal yellow iris mid-right, then the eye is drawn across to the top left and finally back towards the centre again. Now the viewer has connected to all the Irises, able to fully appreciate the overall bouquet. The layout and balance of tones is also very important.
